Tips For Making A Small Space Seem Bigger!

When it comes to setting up your shop, naturally you’ll want to create the illusion of a bigger space, especially if your shop is smaller than you’d like. By using a few smart tricks, you can fool people into thinking you have more space than you actually do.

  1. Paint an accent wall. Using a bold colour on one wall can create the illusion of a receding space, plus it really spices the place up! You could also use a colourful, patterned or textured wallpaper to do this.
  2. Use window-like effects to enlarge the feel of the room. You could use boxes cut into a wall, or for a cheaper effect, use curtains draped around tall mirrors to achieve the same effect.
  3. Use floor to ceiling drapes to draw the eye upwards, or hang things from the ceilings to create the illusion of more space.
  4. Displaying items on different levels is also visually appealing, whilst maximising on space, so think about different levels of shelving and how flexible you can be with them.
  5. Use neutral colours such as ivory and grey- use these colours to add more items, but without bunching too many together, as this will make your space look cluttered. You can then use brightly coloured accents to liven up the area.
  6. Think outside the box when it comes to displaying your products. Doing something outside the norm will help distract your customers from a lack of space and instead inspire them to make impulse purchases!
  7. Lighting lighting lighting! Use the right lighting for your space, to make sure your products are properly illuminated. Lighting is exceptionally important in small spaces- if a space is not properly lit then that area is as good as wasted.

Summer Shop Shelves!

Do you remember to update your shop seasonally? There’s so much you can do to entice your customer through your doors, no matter what time of year it is. Appealing to the eye and making your shop change with the seasons is a great way to refresh your shop regularly to make sure you customers see something new every time they come in.

Summer is the perfect time to create enticing, exciting displays that will draw customers into your shop. Think about the themes you could use that tie in to your shop. Do you have products which could be used in a nautical theme? This is great one for personalising products to appeal to people in the summer- you can use boat-shaped shelving, stripes in textiles and sand in window displays to really impress!

Consider what colours you’ll use- summer is the time to use bold, bright colours, with plenty of yellows to tie in the warm weather and long sunny days. Creating your window display doesn’t have to be costly- you can use colourful fabrics or paper to create backdrops and props to bring your display to life and make your shop stand out. Avoid being predictable to really make an impression- people love something different!

Make sure you have the right amount of light on a product- lighting up your window display shouldn’t be an afterthought. The correct amount of lighting can really make your products shine, no matter what they are. Use a focal points to illuminate and avoid lights from above, which create shadows. It’s worth keeping a few spotlights on after you close up- if you’re the only shop with lights on you’ll be the only one people look at when they walk by in the evening. You’ll be sure to stick in their mind next time they’re out shopping!

Peg Board Point Of Sale

Peg boards are wonderfully versatile when it comes to getting creative with your points of sale. You can create something that looks great visually, while attracting the attention of your customers when they enter your shop.

Why not customise your peg board by painting them to compliment your products or the decor in your shop? Displaying items doesn’t need to be dull, you can inject colour in a variety of ways to make sure you impress your customers. Upgrading your peg board doesn’t need to be expensive- just be prepared to get your hands dirty! Why not use stencils to add colour and detail to your peg board, for a great background to inject some excitement into your display? There are some great tutorials on YouTube and DIY sites to give you tips on how to make your display board look professional and impressive!
Remember, when displaying your products on the hooks or prongs, you can line up your products in more ways than one. If you have different sizes of a product, you can arrange these in size order vertically or horizontally to create more of an impression. Products of different colours can also be used to create impressive displays, turned into colour wheels or arrange in rainbow order.

If you sell jewellery, for example, try arranging your products in sets, to encourage customers to buy the whole lot, rather than just one product. If you show which items look good together you’re more likely to generate impulse buys and entice customers to buy more.

Peg boards are extremely versatile- you’re only limited in what you can do by your own imagination! People love something that is different, so think outside the box to entice those customers to buy!

Reclaim your space

It can be very frustrating when you are trying to maximise the use of space available. The walls and aisles are taken care of, but when you get to the corners they present a different sort of challenge. They can be underused, or just seen as areas which are relatively useful for the odd-shaped things that don’t really fit anywhere else. You may feel that you have filled your store to its capacity, but with added corner space you can relieve the cramped shelving and create extra room - you can reclaim wasted space!

Shelving4Shops can help you to utilise these areas with well-designed corner shelving, making a perfect fit for the rest of your display. The corner units can also stop goods sliding to the ends of your conventional shelving and then falling to the floor, with consequent loss of goods and sales.

Often there is a random pile of goods, which doesn’t seem to fit any particular place; the corner unit is a good place to display these odd items, and transform them into something which is both interesting and useful. Our corner shelving units which can be supplied in three different heights, ranging from 1.8 metres high to 2.4 metres high, and the shelves can be adapted to suit your needs. So whether you want to use the unit in a larger or smaller space, it will fit and give you an ideal solution. The unit can also stand alone, though it will require legs to be added on. The units are easily cleanable, which has to be good, as corners are notoriously difficult places to cope with!

Your cramped corners can be given a life of their own!

Don’t let a wall go to waste

When competition in the marketplace is fierce, everything that you can do counts. Everything that you can sell is extra turnover, and everything that's displayed is something more to attract the customer’s attention and potentially meet their needs.

That’s precisely why every wall your shop has needs to be utilised and made into an attractive point of sale, without being cluttered or disorganised - which is where Shelving4Shops comes in. We can help you to equip your shop walls with exactly the sort of shelving that is going to do that for you.

Too much clutter causes confusion, which then means the customer may well go elsewhere because they can't find what they're looking for. Somehow a happy medium needs to be reached, with well-stocked but not overstocked shelves. Even when your store is not the largest in your immediate area, it doesn’t mean that it can't be the most popular. There is more to success than size.

Shelving4Shops offers a variety of wall shelving to meet your needs, and to make it simpler for you, it's all relatively easy to put together, as well as being easy to clean.

Our shelving units are available in three different heights, with shelf depths from 200mm to 570mm, and as they can be adjusted to meet the requirements of the stock that you carry, they will cover just about all of your needs! If you're looking for something different, contact us to see how we can help you maximise your wall space with an alternative solution. We have been in the business of supplying shelving for over fifteen years, and have become experts in solving shelving problems for our customers.

A helping hand

Whether you are an independent shop or a larger store, it can feel quite lonely out in the world of competitive trade. So many things need professional attention, and frequently it seems like the issues just can’t wait. Machinery requires maintenance, equipment is prone to breaking, tax forms need completing - you name it, it all needs to be done last week! Time is a precious commodity, and it can feel like it's in very short supply, which is why refurbishment and similar projects get pushed to the back burner. They just don’t seem to happen, because there really isn’t time to source everything you need.

Not only is time a big issue, but also where to get the best advice and products for refurbishment - and then there is the cost, which at first glance seems to be discouraging.

Shelving4Shops has been in the business of shelving for refurbishment for over 17 years, and from considerable experience can be a helping hand to any business, whatever the size.

We can advise you on the best way to equip your premises with relevant shelving, whether you want gondola style, wall shelving, stand-alone wire shelving, or peg boarding. If you don’t know what you're looking for, then we can discuss and hep you to decide the best approach for your business.

Shelving4Shops also carries stocks of recycled shelving, offering a cheaper option for many businesses, and at the same time lessening the impact of refurbishment on the environment.

So, you see, you aren’t alone! Shelving4Shops can help you in your planning stages and in the actual equipping of your store. We supply just about everything from the shelving to the baskets, from the cash registers to the hooks and prongs for shelves. Whatever your needs, we can help.

Give us a call on 01455 221512 for more information, or call in to our Leicestershire showrooms for a personal discussion.
