First Impressions

There’s no way about it, first impressions matter!

In a store, this is more important than ever in clinching those sales. People walking into your store for the first time can take a bit of time to orient themselves and ‘get used’ to your store. Therefore, what you put at the entrance to your store matters a great deal.

Make the most of this space. It's a fantastic opportunity to grab customers attention and lure them in! You don't want the entrance to look cluttered, so an effective use of shelving to display products means customers can really feel comfortable browsing. It's a great place to put offers, to really entice people in, so again display is very important here.

Our peg boards are a great way of experimenting with products at varying heights, creating a visually stimulating display. Sometimes products just don't sit well on shelves, due to their size or shape, which is where peg boards come in. You can more effectively showcase products in a different manner, allowing for demonstration of the product to its original capabilities. Peg boards also allow for display flexibility

The shop entrance has the highest footfall in your entire shop, it's definitely worth making the most of. Make sure you grab the person's attention and display your products as effectively as possible!

Peg Boards

No matter how hard you try, sometimes you just can’t get a certain product to sit well on a shelf. This isn’t the shelf’s fault, it’s most likely the design and shape of the product. Not every product is designed with a shelf in mind. Some products just hang a lot happier on a peg board.

Peg board’s are a great way of varying your shop display. They give you a chance to experiment with different heights and levels, effectively showcasing products in a different manner. Products that are designed to hang can be displayed more effectively with the use of peg boards, and demonstrate the product to its original capabilities.

If you find that the peg board display needs ’shaking up’ a little, then it’s as simple as anything to move some of the pegs around to better display certain products. If you find that there’s an empty space where a product has sold well, then it’s quick and simple to move another peg and product to that empty space on the board. It may also be a lot safer to showcase certain products on a peg board than it would be if they were placed on a shelf, mugs for instance. Shelves tend to have an extremely smooth and slippery surface, and mugs are practically designed to be hung on a peg board.

Peg boards can provide you with plenty of versatility for your merchandise and shop floor layout and configuration. However, it’s important to remember that it’s not about seeing how many pegs and stock you can fit on one unit. Peg boards encourage you to diversify your displays, and allow you to create an easy and efficient customer shopping experience.

Christmas…….Already?

We all like a good old moan that Christmas gets earlier every year! By October (or September for some stores), the Christmas products start to hit the shop shelves and Christmas songs blare out from over the speaker systems.

So, almost half way through September, it’s time to start thinking about the Christmas displays and what stock you will have on offer. Of course it’s not just Christmas that comes round every year, winter does too, so shelves full of ice scrapers, de-icer, gloves and cold remedies also need to be ordered in time for the new season.

However, ordering the stock (and the cheesy Christmas album) isn’t the only thing you need to do to get the most from the new season. Store owners always need to think about the next promotion and how best to display it. Would the gloves do better in a dump bin by the counter so people pick them up while waiting to pay or would they look better on a peg board end bay that you can see as you walk through door?

Peg Board Display
As a store owner there is so much to think about and it can sometimes be overwhelming, which is why Shelving4Shops is here to help with all of your shop shelving requirements.

Shelving4Shops offers advice and a store planning service or every customer, helping you to decide on how best to set out your shop shelving to maximise sales. This might include adding a new promotional end bay so that you can draw attention to promotional products. Peg board panels can easily replace plain ones and new hooks allow you display a range of products, saving you lots of space on your shop shelving.
Of course, if you don’t have the space for a complete new promotional end bay, there are always tiered wire shelves that are so small and light they can fit into even the smallest of spaces, or why not freshen up your shelves with new EPOS strips in green or red to show off Christmas sections of your store.
We have our full range of new shop shelving and accessories available online at Shelving4Shops including:

·     Gondola shelving - Many stores choose to use gondola shelving due to its versatility and the range of widths and heights that we stock mean that it is perfect for every store. This shelving can be used to create aisles throughout your store and provide ample display room.
·     Wall shelving - If you have a lot of wall space then wall shelving is an excellent way to maximise the floor space you have available. We have a range of heights and widths available to ensure you can find the perfect fit for your store.
·     Shopping baskets - Placing stacks of baskets at the front of your store makes it easier for customers to carry more items. It can also help to have stacks of baskets around the store to encourage customers to pick up more items than they originally intended.
·     Wire stacking baskets - Using wire stacking baskets can be a great way to fill that empty space in the corner or that open floor space you have that is too small for a full bay of shelving. The versatility of these baskets make them a great addition to any store and can be moved regularly to draw customers eyes to new displays.
·     Corner shelving - The design of classic straight shelving means that often a corner is left empty or block off. The simple addition of a corner shelving unit can open up that corner and provide extra display space for products.
       ·     Peg board shelving and pegs - Not all products that are stocked will sit well on traditional flat shelving, pegboard shelving is an excellent alternative that can, with the simple addition of hooks, easily display hanging items.

There's no no time to lose, Christmas really is just around the corner! So if you need to update your wall or gondola shelving, buy some new EPOS or add some extra shelves, or choose some additional shelving accessories like dump bins, wire stacking baskets, shelf risers or shopping baskets, visit our website at www.shelving4shops.co.uk, visit our Midlands-based showroom or call us on 01455 221512.

Shop Shelving for Pet Stores

If you run a pet store, make the very best of your store space with the right shop shelving and accessories, maximising the amount of stock you can display and optimise your customer experience. Is it time for you to update your retail shelving?

One of the challenges pet stores face in terms of shelving and display is that stock can often be pretty heavy! If you haven't got durable shelving that can cope with the weight of cat litter or bags of dried food, you'll be forking out for new shelving units before you should be. And if your shelving configuration isn't flexible enough for you to display a wide range of pet accessories and products then you'll be losing revenue by trying to cram products into insufficient or inappropriate shelving areas.

Choosing the right shelving for your pet shop is essential to bring the best return on your products and help your business to thrive in the current financial climate.

Here are a few suggestions for improving your pet store layout using efficient and reliable shelving units:
  • Wall Shelving - Use the vertical wall space in your store to provide versatile shelving options to suit a variety of products. Change the height and angle of your shelves according to your needs and add shelf risers and dividers to keep displays neat. We have 3 different heights and 4 widths available to ensure you can find the perfect fit for your store.
  • Gondola Shelving - Gondola shelving can be used to easily create aisles in your store and direct foot traffic through the shop, maximising customer exposure to products and providing you with double-sided shelving units to display a greater amount of stock. These units can be used in conjunction with our other bay units to create a seamless flow of shelving or add a finisher leg to make the unit freestanding.
  • Peg Board Shelving - This shelving is great for pet stores as it allows you to hang and display a wide range of products from hooks or on shelves. A great space-saver in small areas and a hugely versatile style of shop shelving.
  • End Bays - These units help to cap a shelving run neatly and provide an extra set of shelving. The end of aisles often receives one of the highest levels of foot traffic within a store, this means end bays are a great way to display end-of-line stock, specialist items, promotional products or seasonal displays to draw in customers.
  • Wire Shelving and Dump Bins - Fill every corner of your pet shop with flexible and temporary shelving like stacking wire baskets and dump bins. Great for awkwardly-shaped products that don't sit well on a shelf, or for encouraging spontaneous purchases at the tills.

Tips for Fitting Out a New Store with Shop Shelving

Fitting out a new store with shop shelving and racking can be a great opportunity to maximise the potential of your layout from the very beginning. Opening a new shop is exciting, nervewracking and a lot of work, but the Shelving4Shops team have over 15 years' experience in helping new businesses get set up and ready for opening day, from the planning stages to the physical fitting of your shop shelving.

Starting with an empty shell, plan out your shop shelving layout to optimise the success of your store - where you place your shelving and shop fittings really has an impact on how much your customers spend during each visit. Here are a few tips on fitting out your new store to create the best shelving configuration and design possible.

Creating Aisles with Gondola Shelving - Gondola shelving is double-sided freestanding shelving that is perfect for creating aisles up and down your store. Link gondola units together to form a 'run' of shelving that you can stock with products either side. Use these partitions to determine how your customers will move through your store, guiding traffic to different areas to maximise exposure to your stock.

Stocking Shelves - Generally, products at eye-level perform better than products lower down on the shelves so consider which popular products are going to bring you the most return, and place them accordingly. Avoid having over-crowded or under-stocked shelves, and keep your shop shelving neat, clean and tidy with clear signage and pricing information.

Product Displays Think about the areas in your store that will have the most visual impact for customers - perhaps an end bay of a gondola facing the front door, or wall space next to your shop counter. And don't forget about your window displays - make the most of seasonal goods and provide passing customers with an enticing display to bring them into your store.

Maximise Space - Configure your shop shelving to make the best of your floor area, ensuring that customers have plenty of room to move between aisles and browse without bumping into anything! Pegboard shelving can be useful to save on space and allows you to display a wide range of products on hooks and shelves. If space is really an issue, think vertical and add extra shelves above head height to store additional stock, or place dump bins and corner shelving in every available nook and cranny.

Coordinate your Shelving - Use matching Epos strips, promotional material, lighting and colour to coordinate your store and bring a sense for consistency. Play to your customers' senses and use music and scent to entice them in and keep them shopping for longer!

A New Showroom for Shelving4Shops!

The new Shelving4Shops showroom is now open for business and we have much more to offer you in terms of retail shelving and shop racking. It’s one thing looking on a website or out of a catalogue, but it’s another thing seeing our range of shelving first hand, enabling you to visualise your products and give you confidence in what you're buying. It's much easier to make sure you’re getting exactly what you need when shopping at our showroom, and with our large stock of new and used shop fittings available to take away on the same day, you're sure to find the right retail shelving for your requirements.

When you visit our showroom you can also get a free demonstration on how to assemble and fit your shelving correctly, so even if you don’t fancy yourself DIY guru, you should be happy to tackle your new shop shelving by the time you leave! And if not, let us know and we can deliver and assemble it for you.

We're happy to sit down with you at the showroom to discuss your shop shelving and planning needs, and with our range of peg board, gondola and wall shelving all displayed in various sizes, it's easy to see how your shelving layout can work for you.

Of course, it did take a little time for us to get up and running in our new offices and showroom as we had a lot of work to do! First, there was the office move, then we had to remove a wall…

The wall removed

The full extent of the showroom was revealed for the first time
With that done and the shelving from the old showroom dismantled we could really appreciate how big the new showroom would be...

Work begins to build the showroom

Wall bays and stacking baskets are placed
Once the dust settled and the floor was cleaned, work began on installing the new shop shelving display. While this was completed the old showroom was kept semi-functional so our customers at least had something to look at (even if it was a little dusty). A new corner display unit was installed and stacking baskets placed so that our customers could get a sense of scale and versatility of the products.

And after a lot of work and a solid effort from the team, we now have a smooth sleek U shaped showroom for all of the visitors to enjoy, demonstrating our range of quality new and used shop shelving and accessories:

We also have a few new lines on display, such as our mirrored vegetable shelving and wooden bay ends:

Now we're up and running, we are fully equipped to help our customers choose the right shop shelving. Sometimes it can be very difficult to visualise the different sizes of shelving in your store space and we are often asked to recommend an average sized shelf. We always suggest for customers to come into the showroom to see the products for themselves, and we even provide cans and bottles to give you a real sense of scale.

Our showroom is now fully open to visitors and with a new counter installed and the cleaning complete we are happy to invite all our customers new or old to come and take a look at our new shop shelving and accessory product ranges. We're based in the Midlands between Leicester and Coventry with great motorway access from the M1, M6 and M69, so there is absolutely no excuse not to come down for a coffee!

We also have our full range of new shop shelving and accessories available online at Shelving4Shops including:

·     Gondola shelving - Many stores choose to use gondola shelving due to its versatility and the range of widths and heights that we stock mean that it is perfect for every store. This shelving can be used to create aisles throughout your store and provide ample display room.

The Versatility of Peg Board Shelving

Peg board shelving is suitable for many different stores, shops, and retail outlets. Peg board is a type of shop shelving that comprises a shelf backing full of holes - pegs and hooks can then be fitted at appropriate heights to hang or display your products as required. The beauty of peg board shop shelving is its versatility, as you can adapt it to your needs as many times as you like, changing your shelving to suit your stock.

peg board shelving
Peg board shelving can be used with almost any type of standard shop racking base, including wall shelving, gondola shelving and end bays. Peg board comes in a variety of heights and peg board backing can even be swapped with existing shelving units for a quick and easy change to your shelving configuration.

Our peg board wall shelving comes in three different heights, 1.8m, 2.1m and 2.4m, all with a 370mm base shelf. Our peg board gondola units also have a base of 370mm but are double-sided for extra shelf space. Gondola peg board units come in heights of 1.4m, 1.6m, 1.8m and 2.1m. End bays also come in the same sizes and can be fitted to other shop shelving units to complete a run or provide promotional shelving space.

peg board wall shelving

Peg board shelving is used in lots of different retail stores, including pet shops, automotive accessory stores, convenience stores and supermarkets, and clothes and shoe shops.

Alongside peg bord shelving, Shelving4Shops holds large quantities of other shop shelving and accessories, including:

·     Gondola shelving - This is a popular shelving choice in many stores, use gondola units to create aisles throughout your store or use them in conjunction with other units we offer to create seamless shelving throughout your store
·     Wall shelving - This shelving can be used around the perimeter of your shop floor to maximise your floor space and provide ample room for displaying items.
·     Shopping baskets - Placing baskets at the front and around your store is a great way to encourage customers to purchase more items as baskets make it easier for them to hold items.
·     Wire stacking baskets - These are an excellent way, like dump bins, to display impulse purchase items and sale items throughout the store. As these are freestanding they can be used to fill empty space in your store and can be easily moved to create new interesting displays.
·     Corner shelving - Utilise every inch of floor space you have by using specialist corner shelving to bring life back into an overlooked corner of your store.

Complement your peg board shelving with a range of shop shelving accessories to make the very best out of your display space, and if you need any help designing your shop layout or deciding on the type of retail shelving you need for your store, please get in touch with the Shelving4Shops team.

Oh We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside - Shelving4shops Hits Frinton-on-Sea

I would like to say we all had a day at the beach, but this could not be further from the truth! Shelving4Shops don’t just supply and fit locally, we can also arrange to deliver anywhere in the UK.

When Mr Mabu from Frinton-on-Sea enquired about shop shelving and shop fitting for his new venture in the seaside town we were happy to help. He visited our retail shelving showroom in Leicestershire and we worked together to design a full shop plan. Mr Mabu had some big ideas for his new shop from a complete refit to a coffee and tea room. Using all these ideas and our knowledge of the industry we were able to design a plan which worked for both customer and staff. The design had a good flow and allowed maximum retail space.

The store as a blank canvas - ready for the team to start work
It was all systems go to get the shop opened for the weekend deadline. So, with drills charged and shelving loaded we set off for a busy day at the beach. On arrival we were met with a blank canvas. The fridges were already in place so the team set to work bringing in the shelving. First, the wall shelving was installed, quickly followed by the gondola shelving. No time for the beach yet… Did someone mention a tea and coffee room?

Gondola shelving being assembled

Wall shelving is semi-assembled on the far wall the and gondolas are moved into position

End bays ready for the shelving to be added
After a couple of hours we were well on way to completion as our shelving system is very easy to install. The Shelving4Shops custom-made counter was put into place and the shop was finished by the end of the day. After a quick tidy up, all that was left for Mr Mabu to do was to stock his new retail shelving.

The Shelving4Shops team sadly did not get the opportunity to enjoy a drink in Mr Mabu’s new tea and coffee room as it was completed the next day. We wish Mr Mabu the best of luck with his new venture and we will be sure to call in when we have other business in the area.

Shelving4Shops is a national company that can help with the supply of retail shelving and accessories anywhere in the UK. You can visit our showroom in Leicestershire to see our great range of products and discuss your plans. Any size store is welcome from a small convenience store to a large cash and carry, we have a solution for you.

Shelving4Shops are experts in retail shelving and accessories – come and visit us to see our extensive range of retail shelving, just some of which are listed below:

·     Used shop shelving - We stock a range of used shop shelving and can work with you to source the shelving you need to match your existing stock.
·     Magazine shelving - This specialist unit allows the front of paper goods to be viewed by customers allowing for the selling point of paper goods to be easily seen and accessible.
·     Gondola shelving - A classic popular choice for many stores, gondola shelving can be used to create aisles in the store or used in conjunction with other units to create seamless shelving.
·     Wall shelving - Line the perimeter of your shop floor with wall shelving to maximise your floors space and provide ample room for displaying items.
·     Shopping baskets - A great way to encourage customers to purchase more items is to make it easier for them to hold more items. By having shopping baskets not just at the entrance to your store but also dotted around the aisles you can increase the number of items and impulse purchases a customer will buy.
·     Wire stacking baskets - These are an excellent way to display impulse purchase items or to put sale items in throughout the store. As these are freestanding they can be used to fill that empty space you have that can not be filled with classic shelving bays.
·     Wire dump bins - Similar to stacking baskets these dump bins can be used to store promotional items or impulse purchase items. They are also an excellent way to create a space in front of the checkout for people to queue in so they do not block the rest of the store.
·     Corner shelving - Utilise every inch of floor space you have by using specialist corner shelving to bring life back into an overlooked corner of your store.
·     Peg board shelving and pegs - Not all products can sit well on a flat shelving, our range of pegboard shelving allows you to hang products to ensure they are displayed in the best way possible. All of our bays can be slotted together to ensure a seamless shelving display.

So, if you need gondola bays or wall shelving, shopping baskets or dump bins, please give us a call on 01455 221512 or email us at info@shelving4shops.co.uk. You can also visit our website at www.shelving4shops.co.uk to find out more about the shelving options we have available.

Choosing and Buying Shop Shelving

Buying new or used shop shelving from Shelving4Shops is easy. Whether you're planning a complete refit, opening a new store, or simply need some replacement shelving units or accessories, we can help you get it sorted from start to finish. Here are just some of the ways we can help you find the perfect shop shelving solution for your store:

- If you know exactly which retail shelving units you need, then simply give us a call on 01455 221512 to see if we are able to supply them. We can offer you new or second hand shop shelving to suit your budget and requirements.

- If you need to draw up a shop plan then we can help you to organise the most cost-effective and efficient shelving configuration for your needs. All we need is an accurate floor plan with measurements and positioning of doors and windows etc.

- If you need help choosing between the different types of retail shelving units we offer, we can give you advice on the benefits of each, including:

  • Gondola shelving - A classic shelving option used in many stores, this shelving can be used to create aisles in your store and can be linked with other bays to create seamless shelving.
  • Wall shelving - Utilise every inch of your store by placing wall shelving around the perimeter of your store and maximise the floor space you have available.
  • Peg board shelving - Not all items sit well on a flat shelf, using pegboard shelving with hooks gives you an excellent place to hang items and these can be used in conjunction with another bay unit to create a seamless display.
  • End bays - Navigating the store often means the section of the store that receives the most foot traffic is the end of the aisle, use end bays to display sale or impulse purchase items.
  • Magazine shelving - The front cover is vital for the sale of paper goods, using specialist magazine units ensure you are displaying paper goods in the most appealing way possible.
  • Dump bins & stacking wire baskets - Utilise those empty corners or around you checkout by placing small impulse purchase items in bins and stacking baskets.
  • Shelving accessories - Customise your shelving to ensure you get the most out of your store, from tags to shelf dividers we have everything you need.

- If you want bespoke units made up of different components (such as a gondola unit with peg board backing on one side and standard shelving on the other), just let us know and one of our team will be happy to help.

- If you need replacement shop shelving that will match your existing units, we will do our best to source an exact match or shelving units that have the same or similar dimensions to create a seamless look.

- If you need us to deliver and assemble your retail shelving, we can do that too! All our units break down into components for easy transportation, and are easily assembled once in your store. Just let us know if you need an extra hand with delivery or setting up your new shelving units.

- You can place your order over the phone, online on our website or in person at our Leicestershire shelving showroom. Please bear in mind that VAT will be added to our prices at the checkout stage.

If there's anything else you can think of to make choosing and buying shop shelving any easier, let us know and we'll do our best to help!

Revamp your store without spending the earth

Is your store or shop shelving in need of a bit of a revamp? It's very easy to put these things off with the logic that it's better to do it all in one big go, but sometimes it's much more effective (and cost-efficient) to update the little details of your store regularly so that it constantly looks in great condition. You'd be surprised how much difference just a small change can make! Here are just a few ideas:
  • Updating your Epos strips helps to keep your shop shelving looking neat and clean, and you can even colour-coordinate your ticket strips with the branding of your shop, or colour-code different sections to help customers find the right item.
  • If you have a run of shop shelving with one or two units in disrepair, there's no need to replace the whole lot - Shelving4Shops can help you to find a used shelving unit to fill the gap and match the remaining shelving units so that you can keep your store looking tidy.
  • Is you flooring uneven, worn, or dirty? Installing new flooring or carpeting can make a huge impact to the appearance of your store. Granted it's a fairly big operation to carry out, but it is not as expensive as a complete refit and can be done in a day with the right team of workers! If you can't stretch to a whole new floor, take some time to give your existing flooring a proper deep clean.
  • Worn out or flickering fighting can have a really poor effect on the appearance of your store. It's really worth investing in reliable lighting to show off your products properly and make your shop bright and inviting.
  • When was the last time you reorganised your shop shelving? Why not try a different shelving combination, add peg board shelving or a magazine shop racking? You might find a more efficient method of displaying products and give the appearance of a real update for your store.
  • Dump bins and stacking wire baskets can be placed almost anywhere in a store, providing additional temporary shelving and display space for promotional or seasonal items, or any products that are end-of-line stock that you're hoping to shift quickly! Place them at the end of aisles, in empty corners, or near the checkout counter to encourage spontaneous purchases.
  • Shiny, bright, multi-coloured shopping baskets placed by the entrance of your store help to encourage customers to use them, meaning they're more likely to pick up a few more items than they would otherwise. If your shopping baskets are old and outdated, why not revamp with a set of new ones?

Sometimes the little details can make a big difference to the appearance of your shop shelving and the overall atmosphere of your store. Take the time to update one part of your store each week, and see how much better it looks by the end of the month.

Along with all of the shelving and accessories mentioned above, Shelving4shops stocks a full range of quality shelving which we now offer in cream, black and grey, including:

- Wall Shelving - Use wall shelving around the perimeter of your store to maximise the floor space you have available and provide plenty of display space.
- Gondola Shelving - A classic choice when it comes to shelving, this highly versatile style of shelving works well with a range of products and can be used in connection with our other bay units to create seamless custom shelving.

- Shelves and Accessories - Customise your shelving with our range of accessories to make sure your shelving works for you and your store needs.
- Corner Shelving - Corner shelving ensures that every square inch of your floor space is being utilised and that no floor space is being left unused.

If you need any help with updating or refitting your store, or are in need of replacement shop shelving units, get in touch with us at Shelving4Shops.co.uk
