How to Arrange Gondola Retail Shelving

Gondola shelving is a versatile type of retail racking that allows you to dictate the flow of traffic in your store while maximising display space on free-standing double sided shelving units. The way you arrange your gondola shelving can have a huge effect on the success of your store, encouraging (or discouraging!) customers to pick up extra items and helping visitors to find what they need easily.

Creating an effective flow of traffic will make your stock more visible and boost impulse buys, as well as making your shop pleasant to move around. Gondola shelving units are available in various different sizes to suit your space and can be connected together to make a 'run', capped with end bays which can be stocked with promotional items or popular goods.

One trick when arranging your gondola shelving and retail racking is to place popular and high demand products at the back of the store to ensure that customers are exposed to a variety of other items on their way through the store. If you place these items right by the counter or at the front of the store customers will simply pop in, grab what they want and leave without browsing any further.

When creating aisles with gondola shelving you need to ensure that there is enough space between each shelving unit for easy movement and browsing - this width also needs to be wide enough to accommodate a pushchair or wheelchair. The way you lay out your aisles will help to drive traffic around the store - for example a 'racetrack' layout consists of a series of parallel gondola runs, leading customers around your shop aisle by aisle, while the 'power aisle' layout is more suitable for larger stores and supermarkets and comprises a central aisle with various 'departments' branching off, made up from perpendicular gondola shelving runs.

Gondola display units can be customised with extra shelves, pegboard backing, slatwall shelving, shelf risers and dividers, magazine shelving and adjustable shelves that can be moved to different heights or tilted for easy access.

Visit our website to find out more about any of the items above and to browse our huge range of new shop shelving and accessories, including:

  • ·     Gondola shelving - A popular choice in many stores due to its versatility and functionality, gondola shelving is a staple shelving option for stores of any size. You can use this shelving to create aisles within your store and the range of heights and widths we stock mean that we have the shelving size for you.
    ·     Wall shelving - Use wall shelving around the edge of your store to provide plenty of shelving space while optimising the floor space you have available.
    ·     Shopping baskets - By having stacks of baskets at the front of the store and dotted around the aisles you will encourage customers to purchase more items as it is easier to carry them in a basket than with their hands.
    ·     Wire stacking baskets - These are an excellent way to display sale and impulse purchase items in your store. As these are freestanding they can be used to fill empty spaces and can be easily moved to create new interesting displays.
    ·     Corner shelving - Utilise every inch of floor space you have in your store by using specialist corner shelving to bring life back into an overlooked corner.
    ·     Peg board shelving and pegs - Not all products sit well on classic flat shelving, our range of pegboard shelving allows you to hang products to ensure they are displayed in the best way possible. All of our bays can be slotted together to ensure a seamless shelving display.

Supermarket Shelving

Whether you are in need of supermarket shelving or shop fittings you have come to the right place! Shelving4Shops supplies a wide range of retail shelving, convenience store shelving, and supermarket shelving products, including:

  • Wire stacking baskets - An excellent way to encourage impulse purchases or to display items that would not sit well on a traditional flat shelf.
  • Crisp basket displays - Crisps are many peoples go to impulse purchase, by making them accessible and having displays dotted around your store people are more likely to grab this post-shopping snack.
  • Wire dump bins - A similar premise to stacking baskets, load these with affordable impulse purchase items and have them spread across the store. Alternatively, use these to create a queuing section leading up to your checkout and encourage last-minute purchases close to the till.
  • Epos ticket strips - These are a great way to clearly display product information to customers and make it quick and easy for customers to see the price. If a customer is unsure of the product information they are likely to simply walk away losing you a sale.
  • Supermarket trolleys - Add an easy way to encourage shoppers to pick up more items, if you have great deals on heavy items customers with a trolley are likely to impulsively buy them. If they were forced to carry heavy items around the store they are not going to pick them up or purchase as many items.
  • Shelving components - Use shelving components to customise your shelving to suit you and your storage needs.
  • Wire shelf risers - Ensure that products do not end up falling off the shelf or mixing with the product next to it by using shelf risers. These subtle wire risers can be easily installed and can save you hours separating products and ensures customers can easily access items. By diving shelves, this ensures that the product information displayed at the front of the shelf is accurate to the products directly behind them and avoids confusing customers.
  • Vegetable and fruit displays - Many stores now sell fresh produce as it is an item customer need to repurchase frequently due to its short shelf life. Fruit and vegetables are a product that consumers like to pick up and visually inspect before purchase so it is important to use a display system that caters to this. Using baskets ensures that all the produce will not fall to the floor once one has been taken and ensures that when customers place products back the rest will not be damaged.
  • Gondola shelving units - A classic shelving option in many stores, gondola shelving is highly versatile and comes in a wide range of heights and widths so you can find the perfect match for your store.
  • Magazine shelving units - The best way to display magazines is upright so customers can quickly and easily see the front cover which is often what draws them in. These units can be used for any paper goods where it is important to the sale to see the front, e.g. greeting cards.
  • Corner shelving systems - Make sure you utilise every inch of your store by placing corner shelving units in those unused corners of your store. These can be a great place to put promotional products.
  • Wall shelving bays - If you are limited on space using wall shelving bays ensure you can use your floor space to create aisles and allow shoppers to easily navigate through your store.
  • Supermarket shopping baskets - Similar to shopping trolleys baskets encourage shoppers to pick up more items without having to worry about how you are going to carry them. Placing them by the entraceway aw well as dotting stacks around larger stores mean that they are easily accessable and encourage shoppers to pick them up.
We now offer much of our range of shelving in cream, black and grey to ensure you can find the right fit for your store!

Shelving4Shops' customer base spans a range of stores with individual and varying requirements, such as high volume shop fitting companies
who need large accessible stocks of shelving and fixtures and a fast turn
around. We also serve smaller independent retailers who need the odd shelf or two to finish of an awkwardly shaped corner or empty wall - we are always able to supply the right kind of shop fittings to our customers, big or small.

We hold large stocks of shelving in our Midlands-based warehouse and are able to offer collection and next-day
delivery on most of our retail fixtures. And with a shelving showroom on-site it makes it that little bit easier for you to see and chose the right product for your shop. We can also help with planning your retail store, from designing the best layout, to maximising floor space without overcrowding or hindering foot traffic.

Dump Bins and Stacking Wire Baskets

Fitting out a retail store isn't just about the wall shelving - there are plenty of shop accessories like dump bins and baskets that can make your store more efficient and provide you with additional storage and display space.

Dump bins are a handy and adaptable addition to your shop shelving that can fit in corners and alcoves that previously were wasting space. Placed at the end of aisles or by the shop counter, dump bins and baskets also encourage spontaneous impulse buying, and are ideal for displaying end of stock items or promotional and seasonal products, or items that are not easily stacked on a shelf.

Our standard dump bin comes in durable chrome and measures 800mm by 480mm with an adjustable base which can be placed at the height that suits your products. All our dump bins come flat packed for easy transport and can be taken apart and easily stored if you need extra space. At just £20, dump bins are a useful and effective way of creating an extra display within your store without sacrificing on space.

As well as dump bins, we stock a variety of stacking baskets and wire shelving units. Stacking baskets are perfect for fresh produce and making the most of difficult spaces within your store, while providing several tiers of shelving. Choose from 3 or 5 tiered wire basket shelving, in horizontal or vertical arrangements, or a free-standing 5 tier wire shelving unit for larger spaces. Costing from just £18, wire baskets are a very affordable option for valuable additional shelving space.

It is also important to consider how you are going to provide product information and display prices to customers in the various forms of display units. Often, dump bins or stacking baskets hold impulse purchase items so you want customers to quickly and easily see the price and product information to allow them to quickly pick something up on their way past.

For standard shelving like gondola bays and end bays EPOS shelf edge strips are a quick and effective way to display information. All of our bays are compatible with EPOS strips and can add a pop of colour to your shelving or be used in a similar colour scheme as the rest of your store creating a flow of colour throughout. If you are using dump bins or stacking baskets then EPOS strips will not be the best option for you, instead why not use other points of sale like individual product stickers, these can be really useful if customers pick up items and place them elsewhere in the store as each item has the price on it. Alternatively, pricing clips work perfectly with basket storage as they can easily be clipped onto the front or side of the basket and display all of the information a customer could need.
