Big Plans for Leicestershire Shop Owner

Some people think it’s better to hold back on big projects and shop refits in this ever-changing financial climate, but not so for a Leicestershire man who has gone all out to convert a tired-looking furniture show room in Barwell into a fresh looking Londis store.

Before the refit

As you can see this wasn't just a quick lick of paint or replacing a few ceiling tiles - the property needed a full refit and major building work. The shop was split in two with a brick supporting wall, and since this layout wouldn't work for a convenience store, the wall had to go...

Removing the wall opened up the whole the shop floor, providing an expanse of wall space which has been maximised buy installing large runs of multidec chillers and double door freezers.

With the wall was taken out, steel support beams were added to take the weight of the upstairs floor and roof trusses. A new floor was added using light coloured floor tiles which give the property a nice bright feel - this was also necessary to make the floor level which made our job a lot easier when it came to fitting the retail shelving!

The whole of the existing ceiling was removed and a new suspended ceiling installed. Modern lighting was fitted and extra lights added to brighten the shop. All this work has really transformed the shop from an old dark building to a modern and inviting retail space.

Work in progress

Retail shelving was added in between the chillers, including magazine shelving and wall shelving units. Two runs of gondola shelving was placed in the centre of the floor, adding direction and flow around the store. Finally, end bays were added to each gondola run to maximise the floor space and give a professional look.

Installation of Gondola Shelving

A four metre counter was installed and wire stacking baskets added for crisps and confectionery items, helping to encourage impulse buys whilst customers queue at the till and allowing the store to maximise on sales.

Wire dump bins were also added around the store to fill awkward spaces and make the shop look more interesting. After all the retail shelving had been assembled it was clear to determine any blind spots around the shop and where CCTV cameras could be installed.

Londis organised and fitted the shop front signs on the outside of the property which completely transformed the look of the old furniture showroom into a modern and inviting convenience store.

Then all that was left to do was merchandise the shop shelving and start trading! The
Shelving4Shops team wish them every success for all their hard work, and we look forward to working with them on their next projects.

Along with all of the shelving and accessories mentioned above, Shelving4shops stocks a full range of quality shelving which we now offer in cream, black and grey:

- Wall Shelving - Place wall shelving around the perimeter of your store to make the most of the floor space you have available.

- Gondola - A classic choice when it comes to shelving, this is a highly versatile style of shelving for all types of products and can be used with our range of shelving accessories to give a custom space to suit your store.
- Magazine Units - Magazine units ensure you can present your paper goods in an effective way to draw in customers as the front cover needs to be on view.
- Shelves and Accessories - Customise your shelving with our vast range of accessories, we have everything you will need to divide, label and hold any product you are looking to display in your store.
- Corner Shelving - Often due to the shape of traditional shelving the corners of shops get left unused but corner shelving ensures that every square inch of your floor space is being utilised.
- Peg Board Gondola Shelving - If you have products that would be better displayed hanging up rather than flat on a shelf then pegboard shelving is the perfect solution.

Shop Shelving Showroom and Planning Service from Shelving4Shops

At Shelving4Shops we always strive to provide a great service over the phone, but did you know you can also visit our showroom and see for yourself the quality of our retail shelving and accessories? Here at Shelving4Shops we want you to buy the right shelving for your retail establishment and we know it is sometimes hard to visualise size, quantity and specifications over the internet or phone. When you visit our showroom we can sit down with a tea or coffee and talk through your plans to see exactly what shop shelving you need. Our planning service helps you to find the right type of shelving to suit the different products you stock: whether you need peg boards to hang your batteries, end bays to store your promotional goods or magazine shelving to store your newspapers and cards, we have the right solution for you.

Not only can our experienced and professional team suggest ways to save you money and time, but we can also help you plan your shop to get the most out of the space you have available. Simply bring us the dimensions of your store and a plan of where your doors, windows and refrigeration units will be, and we can work out the rest. Viewing the showroom can also give you other ideas - something as simple as dump bins or vegetable racks can add an interesting feature with the ability to hold extra stock or special offers to keep your customers coming back to your store time and again.

The Shelving4Shops showroom is based in Leicestershire with easy access off junction 1 of the M69. If you come in a suitable vehicle you can visit the showroom and collect your order on the very same day or we can arrange delivery for you.

Our showroom is open on weekdays from 9am to 5pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm.  So, if you are unsure if you want a 1.4m, 1.6m, 1.8m or a 2.1m gondola, come and see the difference for yourself.

We offer a full range of shelving options on our website in the classic cream and now in the modern black or grey:

- Wall Shelving - Utilise the floor space that you have and line the edge of your store with wall shelving. By having shelving flush to the wall you can ensure you have decent sized aisles to allow customers to comfortably pass each other.
- Gondola Shelving - A classic shelving choice for many stores, this versatile shelving comes in 4 heights and 4 widths to ensure that you can find the perfect fit for any store.
- Magazine Units - The biggest initial selling point of a magazine is the front cover meaning the best way you can display them is in a magazine unit where they can easily be organised and neatly displayed. These units can work with any paper goods like greetings cards.
- Shelves and Accessories - Customise your shelving with accessories, using dividers and EPOS strips you can utilise the space you have and find the best method of displaying the products you sell.
- End Bays - The end of an aisle is one of the highest levels of foot traffic in a store so it is the perfect place to grab customers attention. End bays are an excellent place to put sale items and impulse purchase items.
- Corner Shelving - Utilise every inch of your store and use the forgotten corner by filling it with corner shelving. This shelving can quickly provide extra display space that traditional shelving does not offer.
- Peg Board Gondola Shelving - If you have items that need to be hung up and do not sit well on a flat shelf then pegboards are the way forward. You can attach hooks to give you plenty of hanging space or attach shelves to ensure you never have a dead space in your store.

Why wait? Come and visit the Shelving4Shops showroom today and speak to one of our experienced team. Alternatively, visit our website or call us on 01455 221512.

Shop Shelving Display Tips to Boost Sales

Use your shop shelving and displays to boost sales! The way your shop is laid out makes a huge difference to how well certain products sell - customers are influenced by the layout and displays within your store and the way you arrange your shop shelving can encourage more impulse buys and increased interest in carefully displayed products.
Visual merchandising and the positioning of your retail shelving drives traffic around your store, directing them to the products they want (and the products they didn't realise they wanted until right that moment!) so it's important to take some time to effectively market your products.

First of all, your shop should be clean, tidy and easy to navigate - provide customers with as much space to move between aisles as possible, including those who are in wheelchairs or pushing buggies and pushchairs. Narrow aisles and difficulty moving around a store can be a real turn-off for customers. Keep your shelving well stocked and presented in an aesthetically pleasing way, ensuring that any signage is clear, accurate and relevant. Place complementary items together to make it even easier for customers to find what they need and encourage 'add on' sales.
First impressions count, so make sure that promotional product displays are in clear view as soon as a customer enters the store. Other promotional offers and seasonal products can be displayed on shop shelving that can be seen through the front window or on end bays at the ends of aisles. Make use of awkward areas and corners by placing impulse buys on corner bays and in dump bins so that no space is wasted.
For help with planning your store layout to maximise efficiency and sales, get in touch with us at Shelving4Shops where we stock a huge range of new and used shop shelving, including:
  • Gondola shelving - A classic choice in many stores, gondola shelving is a truly versatile shelving option, we offer 4 heights and 4 widths to ensure you can find the correct size shelving for your store.
  • Wall shelving - Use wall shelving to save space and utilise that back wall, this shelving sits against the wall optimising the floor space you have available and allowing you to have aisles that accommodate pushchairs and trolleys.
  • Promotional end bays - The best place to put sale items is in the direct eye line of customers, not all customers are going to walk up every aisle but they will walk past the end of them to reach other sections of the store or to get to the checkout. Utilise this prime space in your store by putting sale/promotional items in end bays and use clear signage to highlight these great savings.
  • Corner shelving bays - Corners are often a dead space in many stores that use classic shelving but the simple addition of corner shelving can open up that forgotten space and optimise the floor space you have.
  • Magazine shelving - One of the biggest selling points of magazines are the front covers, by using magazine shelving you can clearly see the front cover and attract customers. These units can also be used to sell other paper goods where it is important to be able to see the front, like greeting cards.
  • Retail shelving - Displaying retail items and making them easily accessible to customers is the making or breaking point of many stores, customers will not wait around for staff to find items for them.
  • Supermarket shelving - Similar to retail shelving, customers want to be able to walk into a store with a list, grab all the items and leave. They will not wait around for someone to walk by and then wait for them to get items for them. Having items clearly displayed and easily accessible is vital in any store.
  • Pegboard shelving - Some items do not work well on a flat shelf, pegboard shelving allows you to hang items allowing them to be viewed better. If you no longer need hanging space, shelves can be fixed to pegboard shelving to ensure you always have the best display options for your store.
  • Dump bins and wire baskets - Using dump bins and wire baskets around the store are a great way to encourage impulse purchases or to promote sale items. This style of display can utilise a dead space of the store or can be used to create a section near the checkout so people know where to queue.
  • Shelving accessories - Customise your shelves to your store, from coloured EPOS strips to shelf dividers you can take any shelving and make it work perfectly for your store.
